About Change Austin

Change Austin is a plain, non-partisan guide to civic life in Austin, Texas: how city decisions get made, the issues under debate, and the practical ways residents can take part.

What this site covers

We explain the machinery of local government — the 10-1 council, the boards and commissions that shape its decisions, the budget cycle, and the ballot — and we track the issues that keep returning to City Hall: housing and land use, transportation, homelessness, public safety, water and the environment, and the accountability questions that run through all of them.

The aim is to inform and explain, not to campaign. We don't endorse candidates, parties, campaigns or outcomes. Where an issue is genuinely contested, we try to lay out what's at stake and who decides, and leave the conclusion to you.

How we approach it

Every page is built to be useful and uncluttered: no pop-ups, no paywalls, no auto-playing video. Just clear information, kept current, with links to official sources so you can verify meeting times, deadlines and ballot details yourself before you act.

Who publishes this

Change Austin is part of the WholeTech Network, an independent Austin publisher that has been building websites since 1996. The network spans a family of Austin sites and more than a hundred others, each focused on a single subject.
